Due to the large number of orders, it may take up to 3 weeks for your order to be ready for pick-up. Just know that we will try our best to have it ready for you ASAP!

What is "locker meat"?

Locker Beef is an inexpensive solution for families who want to buy their meat in bulk. You can buy a 1/4, 1/2, or whole cow at a discounted rate than shop at a grocery store. Our locker meat is sold as ground meat. This means that all the premiere cuts of the cows are included within the ground steak, making it high quality. You will receive your meat in 1 lb-11/2 lb vacuum sealed packages.

How does the process when ordering "locker meat" work?

Step 1: Place your order online! We will ask you for a down payment of $100-300 depending on the size of your order. Step 2: Once we have received your order, we will deliver the meat to Matt's Custom Meats, where we will obtain the final weight of your cow. Once we have weighed your cow, you will receive an invoice to pay the full amount of 2.25 cents per pound of hanging weight plus 0.68 cents per pound for the packaging of your meat. The harvest fee is rolled up into this price, so no additional charge to you! Step 3: Once your meat is ready to be picked up, which could take up to 3 weeks, you will be notified. Just know that we will do our best to get it ready ASAP! Step 4: Pick-up your order from Matt's Custom Meats. Step 5: Enjoy your beef!

Can you guide me through the process?

Sure we can! Example: You bought a 1/4 cow. The actual hanging weight of your cow will range from 100 to 175 pounds, but we won't know that information until the cow goes to Matt's Custom Meats to be weighed. That's why we ask for a minimum down payment and then have you pay the rest when you receive your final quote. Then you hear from us that your 1/4 cow weighed 150 pounds. Initial payment: $ 100.00 Price of your 1/4 cow: (150 lbs x $ 2.25 hanging weight) + (150 lbs x $0.68 packaging) - $ 100.00 of initial payment = $ 339.50. You then received your final invoice and paid your total of $ 339.50 for your packaged beef. Once the full amount has been paid, you will be notified when your beef is ready to be picked up! The total cost is $ 439.50.

How much meat will I really get?

This question is a little more difficult to answer, just like in a grocery store where your meat may weigh differently and be set at different prices. The industry standard estimate is 50% -55% of a cow's meat yield. So a quick estimate for the example given in our pricing tutorial: A 1/4 cow with a 150lb hanging weight with a 55% meat yield will be 82.5 lb of packaged ground fillet. This would equate to approximately $ 5.32 per pound of quality steak. Again, yield may vary by cow.

How does the process when ordering pork work?

Step 2: Once we have received your order, we will deliver the meat to Matt's Custom Meats, where we will obtain the final weight of your meat. Step 4: Once your meat is ready to be picked up, which could take up to 3 weeks, you will be notified. Just know that we will do our best to get it ready ASAP! Step 5: When you pick up your order, you will pay Matt's Custom Meats a harvest fee of $85.00 and for your meat packaging at 0.72 cents per pound.
